Remisniscing

As he sat down on the bench, looking at the people around him in the garden, he let out a deep breath. It was a much needed break from all the hustling and bustling of the forever busy city. Little kids were running around having the time of their lives, mums sitting on the benches gossiping, a few businessmen reading newspapers, college students studying on the grass.

His mind wandered. He thought about home. Far away. His family must be doing well. Everyone is healthy and happy. And then he thought of his dogs, they could be annoying sometimes but he cant help adoring them.

His thoughts then moved on to his friends back home. Childhood friends that he grew up with. Some he met along the way and became really good friends. Some were more like brothers to him. Memories of their mischiefs made him chuckle.

As he looked around, he saw an elderly couple holding hands, taking a stroll in the park. They looked happily in love. He smiled to himself. He thought about the times he was in love and the heartbreaks that followed. He was grateful for them. For they shaped him and taught him to be a better man.

That was when her face appeared in his mind. The pretty face that he could never forget. That smile of hers that captured his heart. Her gentleness that touched him. There was just something about her that attracted him to her so much.

That heartbreak was particularly hard because he liked her so much, in fact, he loved her. Time has healed the wounds now but given the chance, he would fall head over heels for her again without hesitation.

It has been a while since then. He wasn't sure if he still had feelings for her. He kept his options open, waiting for his next love, but there hadn't been any that was quite like her.

He would always remember that last sun set he spent with her. No words were spoken but yet, they were so close together. It was the sweetest memories he had.

Letting out another deep breath, he freed his mind of the past. He stood up and with the sun casting an orange glow on his face, he headed home.
